The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee met on July 19. The meeting minutes follow.
Margaret Geehan and Joe Stenard opened the meeting at 1 p.m.
It was held both in person and on Zoom.

Surveys Update
Summaries for both the Student Satisfaction Survey (SSS) and the Employee Satisfaction Survey (ESS) will be released during the first week of classes, rather than during the summer as in the past. The summer release drew complaints from some employees who do not work in the summer and do not regularly view emails.

Assessing the Assessment Survey Results Draft Summary
The committee reviewed a summary of the Spring 2022 Assessing the Assessment Survey that has a 36 percent response rate so far.

The group compared the mean response for each question to the mean in 2015 to see whether we had improved or not. For example, for question 1, “I understand the college’s assessment process as it applies to my department/admin unit/division, etc” we had improved. We had a mean of 3.27 in 2015 and 4.92 in 2022, which is better.

For each item, the result was discussed and the group discussed what actions it might indicate we should take. The results also were compared to those attained from previous years’ surveys. This was used to determine in what areas the college is improving or declining. . For Items 1 and 2, for example, which were “I understand the [assessment process] as it pertains to my department/unit,” and “I understand the College’s planning process as it applies to my department/unit,” respectively, their means were 3.27 and 3.17 in 2015 and 4.92 and 4.35 in 2022. . For Item 3, “the current mission and goals of my department reflect what my department actually accomplishes,” had a mean of 3.44 in 2015 and 4.88 in 2022.

. These assessment results also were reviewed to access progress. Item 4, for another example, was “it is relatively easy for my department to acquire the data needed to assess its outcomes,” had a mean of 2.73 in 2015 and 3.92 in 2022. In general, the averages/means seemed to be higher in 2022, which is shows progress in the right direction.
