FOUNDATION FRIDAY

Each week, FOUNDATION FRIDAY shares good news about the work of the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation around campus, whether it be recognizing faculty and staff who have helped the Foundation to raise much-needed funds, celebrating a gift that will help needy students or soliciting generous support from members of the Hudson Valley family.

– The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation thanks Richard Porter, department chair of Building Technologies, for helping to secure a gift of $12,000 from the New York Propane Gas Association to fund scholarships for students in the Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) discipline.

Four $1,500 scholarships will be awarded in Fall 2011 to second-year, full-time HVAV/R students who demonstrate financial need, with preference given to those interested in propane technology. NYPGA’s goal is to help provide more qualified, well-trained technicians to meet the labor needs of the growing propane industry, particularly in upstate New York.

– The Foundation has awarded six $2,500 scholarships to students at the college through a gift of $15,000 from the Women’s Fund of the Capital Region. The scholarship fund was established to assist adult women in completing their education and pursuing their career aspirations. Future awards will go to recipients who are 25 years of age or older, in their senior year at Hudson Valley and have at least a 2.5 GPA, coupled with a strong determination to succeed academically. They also must demonstrate financial need and be residents of Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady or Schoharie counties.
