NCBI Welcoming Diversity Workshop

Lunch will be provided.

“Building Community by Welcoming Diversity” is a full-day workshop. It is an interactive, participatory program designed to promote awareness and increase sensitivity to the many similarities and differences among individuals and groups in our society.

This workshop helps participants to:

–Celebrate their similarities and differences

–Identify the misinformation that they have learned about other groups

–Recognize the internalized negative feelings and behaviors that they direct towards members if their own groups

–Claim pride in their own group identities

–Learn about the personal impact of discrimination through the telling of stories

–Be empowered by learning concrete tools for effectively interrupting prejudicial remarks, jokes, slurs, and behaviors
