Baseball Team Takes Two From Clinton

 

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (22-12-1) swept Clinton Community College (4-6) 7-0 and 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Mike Tietjen (Oneonta/Oneonta) earned the win in game one with a complete game shutout. Shawn Callahan (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) led the way going 2-2 with a three-run home run and Jake DePietro (Kingston/Kingston) went 2-3 with two RBIs.

Sean Geisel (Guilderland/Guilderland) broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth of game two with a two-RBI single. DePietro and Luke Burns (Delaware Academy/Bovina) scored on the play after a double steal that put them in scoring position. Bobby Peluso (Columbia/East Greenbush) went 2-4 at the plate, including an RBI single in the sixth making the game 5-2.

On Friday, the baseball team (20-12-1) took both games of doubleheader over Fulton-Montgomery Community College (2-8) 3-1 and 14-0.

The Vikings travel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this afternoon for a nine-inning game against their junior varsity team beginning at 4 p.m.

The Vikings took another double header against FMCC on Friday.
