Softball Team Sweeps Corning

The softball team (19-5) swept Corning Community College (20-6) on Friday afternoon, 5-3 and 9-1, and briefly rode a 10-game winning streak.

In the first game, Kate Brown (Colonie/Colonie) and Molly McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) both hit solo homeruns to lead the way for the Vikings. Meghan Matan (Shaker/Latham) had two hits, a triple and two RBIs. Katie Cahrenger (Waterford-Halfmoon/Waterford) picked up her ninth win of the season on the mound and pitched herself out of trouble late in the seventh. Up two runs with runners on second and third with one out, Cahrenger got the next two batters to pop and line out to end the game.

Cherish Kilventon (Cohoes/Cohoes) pitched a gem in game two, striking out seven batters allowing only two hits. Kate Brown had a big two-run home run to get the Vikings off to a quick start and never looked back. Molly McDonough and Natalie Triano (Colonie/Albany) both recorded three hits and two RBIs each in the win.
