Three Viking’s Earn NJCAA Academic Awards

 

On Wednesday afternoon, the NJCAA announced that men’s basketball player Anthony Robustiano (Mohonasen/Rotterdam), men’s soccer player James Belcastro (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and women’s bowler/golfer Nicole Sheldon (Columbia/East Greenbush) each earned NJCAA Academic Awards.

Robustiano was the recipient of the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence, while Belcastro and Sheldon received the Superior Academic Achievement Award.

Robustiano was a two-year captain, commanding the point guard position and finishing his career fifth in Viking history with 202 career assists. He was one of the top shooters in the region this season and finished second in the country in free-throw percentage at 85.5% and 15th in the country in three-point percentage at 42.5%.

Belcastro led the Viking’s midfield attack this season on the soccer field. He was one of the top defensive midfielders for the team and finished the season with two assists.

Sheldon was a two-sport athlete who excelled on the bowling lanes. She won the singles championship at this year’s Regional Championships, was named an All-American and was named to both the All-Region and All-Conference Teams. Sheldon’s best finish on the golf course was fourth place at the SUNY Delhi Invitational.
