The current Heat Advisory issued for the greater Capital Region prompted Health Services and Environmental Health and Safety staff to offer the following safety tips. The Heat Advisory is expected to continue throughout the week.
From Keenan Hall, a technician in Environmental Health and Safety
Please be aware, there is an Excessive Heat Advisory – Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27.
During periods of excessive heat, please keep these safety measures in mind:
- Stay Cool, Stay Safe – Limit outdoor activity during peak heat (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.), wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent shade or indoor breaks to avoid heat exhaustion.
- Hydrate Often – Drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Dehydration can sneak up on you.
- Know the Warning Signs – Watch for symptoms like dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat or confusion. If you or someone else shows signs of heat illness, seek medical help immediately.
