UAA Summer Happenings

The Uniquely Abled Academy hosted an inclusive manufacturing bootcamp for three weeks in June.  This camp was sponsored by Sparkforce who provided HVCC with a grant to cover the costs.   Campers learned basic CNC manufacturing skills, completed projects, toured two manufacturing companies, and spent some time learning needed soft skills.  Nine students completed the camp and six of those will be attending UAA this fall.

Throughout June and July, UAA hosted an Overcoming the Transition Barrier: Helping Individuals with Disabilities Prepare for College program here at HVCC. Young adults who attended learned what to expect in college, how it is different than high school, how to stay organized and meet deadlines, how to set up their college accommodations, becoming part of the campus community, where to find help when needed, and more. Dawn Danner, UAA Director states “It was a privilege to teach these students these important skills to ease their transition to college. I am looking forward to growing this program in the years to come!”
