Women’s Tennis Team Loses to Herkimer

The women’s tennis team (0-2) went up against a strong and experienced tennis team losing their second match of the season at Herkimer County Community College (1-0) 8-1.

In the Second Singles match, Emily Qua (Ichabod Crane/Stuyvesant) kept the ball deep and executed some solid shots to earn her first collegiate victory, (6-1, 7-5). Nicole Cassidy (Maple Hill/Castleton) lost a tough fought match in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the Fourth Singles competition. Cassidy controlled her shots and showed great movement in the battle against an opponent that went to Nationals last year. The Vikings also lost a very close First Doubles match as Holly Fletcher (Catholic Central/Waterford) and Qua teamed up losing 9-7 in a match that could have went either way. It was only a matter of a deuce point and a couple of good points in the last game that the other team was able to pull out the victory.

The women host their first match of the season against Mohawk Valley Community College on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.
