Women’s Tennis Team Leads Adirondack after Seven Matches

The women’s tennis team (0-2) is up 4-3 in the match against Adirondack Community College (1-2) after it was called due to darkness.

In an exciting first singles match, Emily Qua (Ichabod Crane/Stuyvesant) came up on top (6-7, 6-2, 7-6) in three sets to earn her second victory in as many tries. Qua was down 5-4 in the final set when she rallied from behind to win in a tiebreaker. Holly Fletcher (Catholic Central/Waterford) and Nicole Cassidy (Maple Hill/Castleton) lost in the second and third singles matches but were able to take their opponents deep into three sets. Chelsea Antanasio (Columbia/Rensselaer) and Kayla Radliff (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) both won their first match of the year taking their opponents down in straight sets.

In doubles action, Janel Weaver (Schenectady/Bellevue) and Radliff teamed up to win in third doubles (9-7). Qua and Cassidy were up (3-2) in first doubles and Fletcher and Antanasio trailed (3-1) in second doubles before both matches were called. The Vikings will need to win one of the matches to pick up their first win of the year when play resumes at a later date.

The women are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 22 when they host Mohawk Valley Community College at 4 p.m.
