The football team (0-4) lost to Erie Community College (2-3) 27-20 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings struck first after an interception by Darry Haley (Woodbridge/Woodbridge, VA) on Erie’s opening drive. Devon Greene (Battlefield/Gainesville, VA) hit running back Tymear Mallory (Bishop Maginn/Albany) on a screen for a 24 yard touchdown. This was the Vikings first lead of the year going up 7-0 on the Kats. Erie then answered with three consecutive touchdowns to take a 20-7 lead into the half.
Hudson Valley fought back with a 47 yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter from C.J. Jones (Woodbridge/Baltimore, MD), but on the ensuing kickoff Erie returned a 73 yard kickoff for a touchdown making it 27-14. The Vikings showed poise on the next possession scoring on a two yard touchdown run from Nathaniel Robinson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga) to put them within seven. Hudson Valley had a few more opportunities but failed to capitalize losing 27-20.
C.J. Jones finished the game with 104 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. Gordie Pine (New Paltz/New Paltz) led the Vikings with nine tackles, while Nick Gilbo (Moriah Central/Port Henry) added eight tackles and one sack.
