Former Hudson Valley Community College standout George McKenna was hired on to the coaching staff at the University of Connecticut after two seasons at Wesleyan under the guidance of former UConn great Chris Potter (’93).
While at Wesleyan, McKenna spent significant time as a recruiting coordinator while also working with the special teams. McKenna also earned a Masters of Liberal Arts from the prestigious school while serving on the bench with the hockey program.
A 2007 graduate of Castelton State College, McKenna served as an assistant coach at his alma mater during the 2008-09 season. As a player, he spent two seasons at Castleton, earning the Unsung Hero Award and the Coaches Award. McKenna also spent two years playing at Hudson Valley Community College under Head Coach Matt Alvey during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. During his time with the Vikings, McKenna recorded four goals and one assist.
McKenna joins UConn with extensive experience with USA Hockey, coaching at the New England and Atlantic District USA Hockey Development Camps. He currently owns a USA Hockey Level 4 coaching certification.
