Registration Open for Winter/Spring Community Ed Courses

Classes as diverse as belly dancing and basic watercolor will be offered over the next several months as the college’s Office of Community and Professional Education begins its winter/spring season of credit-free course offerings.

Registration begins Wednesday, Jan. 18 for the more than 140 course offerings.

Courses are designed for professional development and personal growth, to find new hobbies and expand social and recreational opportunities. They span a wide range of activities, from fiction writing and foreign languages to wine tasting and personal finance.

For a complete list of credit-free courses scheduled, go to www.hvcc.edu/communityed/spring or call x7339 to request a free brochure. Brochures are also available on the rack outside Guenther 252.

Some of the varied new classes this winter include “Market Basket Workshop,” “Intermediate Sewing,” “Introduction to the Digital Camera and Photoshop,” “The Basics of Screenwriting,” “Introduction to Camp Counseling,” and a series of beginner computer software courses that cover PowerPoint, Access, Excel and building web sites.

Programs in cooking, flower arranging, paper crafts, photography, financial planning, business development, gardening, physical fitness and motorcycle rider training are just a few of the other popular courses also being offered this year.

The college also will be offering more than 50 classes, day trips, tours and activities through its popular Center for Creative Retirement. Registration for those courses, which are aimed at active seniors, begins on Feb. 1. More information about Center for Creative Retirement activities may be found at www.hvcc.edu/communityed/spring.

Programs for kids are also on tap at the college during the next few months. The “Mice on Ice,” beginner skating lessons start Jan. 22; “Zumbatonic,” for children ages six to 11, begins April 14; and “Kids Karate,” will be offered from Feb. 18 through March 17. The college’s popular Youth Theater Workshop will be held over the February vacation break, Feb. 20 through Feb. 24, at The Egg in Albany’s Empire State Plaza.
