Canadian Tar Sands Action

A message from the National Wildlife Federation Campus Ecology and the HVCC Sustainability Committee:

Deny the permit needed to build the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

Building the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline would increase our global warming pollution, threaten America’s clean water supplies, deepen our dependence on dirty energy and result in a net loss to American jobs.

We want to thank President Obama for making the right decision. However, our fight is not over.

The Obama Administration will allow TransCanada to reapply for a permit after it develops an alternate route around the sensitive habitat of Nebraska’s Sandhills. Big Oil will be fighting back hard to overturn this decision, using their allies in Congress to push through legislation that removes the President’s authority on the Keystone XL and simply grant the permit themselves.

We need to thank Obama for rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline, but let him know that a tar sands pipeline by any other name is still as dirty.

Here’s how YOU can continue the fight:
Go the the Student Tar Sands Action page (http://www.nwf.org/Global-Warming/Campus-Solutions/Get-Involved/Student-Tar-Sands-Action.aspx) to learn more and to do one of the following:
1) Submit a photo petition to Obama
2) If you’re in the DC area, attend the rally on January 24th at the US Capitol Building to “Blow the Whistle on Big Oil”
3) Send a letter to Obama, thanking him for denying the Keystone XL pipeline and urging him to stand strong against Big Oil.
