The college recently sent its deans’ and president’s lists out via a new software service and the results have been impressive. The announcements have appeared in papers across the region and across the country, boosting the college’s name recognition. The software also allows those who have been recognized to create their very own readabout.me online achievement page.
Readaboutme.com and its partner software, Hometown Newsmaker, allow us to more efficiently and effectively communicate student achievement – like making the dean’s list or earning a scholarship – to our students’ hometown newspaper. The software allows us to create personalized stories about these accomplishments and publish them online at readabout.me. These achievements are also sent to the students’ hometown newspapers through readMedia’s Hometown Newsmaker application.
This allows students get credit for the good work they’re doing on campus, and creates a positive online profile that helps with jobs, internships, and even job interviews and references after graduation.
The announcements were sent to nearly 600 hometown media outlets around the country. In addition, nearly 600 honorees have shared their accomplishment on Facebook or other social media, which has resulted in more than 10,000 page views. If you have a student accomplishment that you feel would be appropriate for Hometown Newsmaker, contact Eric Bryant at e.bryant@hvcc.edu.
