On Saturday, Feb. 4, Dental Hygiene students celebrated Children’s Dental Health Month with a fun interactive program for the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York.
The theme was, “Add a Smile to Your Style.” 120 Girl Scouts, ages 6-8, toured the dental hygiene clinic and participated in an activity that introduced them to the role of the dental hygienist and what a typical visit to their dentist might be like for them. Other theme-based activities included demonstrations of tooth brushing and flossing and the girls practiced their technique on zoo animal teaching puppets.
The Girl Scouts also learned about nutrition for maintaining healthy teeth. The Girl Scout council awards all the girls with a special dental health patch. They also received a gift bag with toothbrush, paste and floss. This special day is sponsored by the HVCC Student Dental Hygienists’ Association.
