Wrestling Club Competes at Amherst

 

The HVCC Wrestling Club traveled to Amherst College in Massachusetts on Sunday to compete in the 13th annual Groundhog Day Invitational Wrestling Tournament against 13 other NCWA, NJCAA and NCAA teams.  The two team captains, Chris Tommasino and Paul Martin, both placed in the top four of their weight classes to secure a 6th place finish for the team.

Martin wrestled in the 149 pound weight class defeating two SUNY Cobleskill opponents but dropping to the 3rd and 1st place finishers.  Also competing for Navy Prep at 149 was LaSalle Institute grad Jon Clemente.

Co-captain Tommasino wrestled in the 165 pound weight class defeating opponents from SUNY Cobleskill and University of New Hampshire before falling to returning NCWA All-American Ryan Madson of MIT.

The club will next be participating in the NYS NCWA Championships at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Feb. 18.  Other schools expected to be in attendance are SUNY Albany, SUNY Stony Brook and RPI.
