Marvin Library Mobile is now available for smartphones and other mobile devices. It is designed for reading on a small screen. Go to http://hvcc.libguides.com/m or go to the Library website at https://www.hvcc.edu/lrc/ and tap on the Services for Mobile Users link. (The design is best displayed on smartphones and does not display optimally on desktop or laptop devices.)
The mobile website includes links to other mobile-friendly resources including the online catalog for finding books, selected research databases, hours and contact information. Phone numbers are coded so they can be tapped and instantly dialed from a smartphone for research help or general library information. Links to the full library website are easily located too.
Best practices from other academic libraries and their development of mobile services were used in the creation of Marvin Library Mobile. Models included North Carolina State University Library Mobile and Leeward (Hawaii) Community College Library Mobile. Students were found to heavily use links to library hours, location information and basic finding tools. The Marvin Library Mobile site will be developed in coordination with the full desktop site and will be informed by usage data and user feedback.
Marvin Library will continue to develop and offer its services to facilitate access to students anytime, anywhere.
