This past week, Christians all over the world began the season of Lent by receiving ashes and by committing themselves to the ancient Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving (caring for the poor). People have traditionally used this time of the year to slow down, reflect more deeply and to draw closer to God.
So in the spirit of being more reflective, here are a few helpful questions inspired by the practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving:
- How can I become more connected to God and to the sacred in my life?
- What are the underlying values and motivations driving my daily activity?
- How can I de-clutter my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual spaces so that I am less distracted and better able to focus on what’s important?
- Am I taking care of my body by eating the right foods in the right portions and staying away from unhealthy foods?
- How can I connect with others to help make a difference in the wider community?
- Do I generously use my time, talents and resources to help the less fortunate?
I hope this season of Lent inspire us to be more intentional in how we live… to be more reflective and less reflexive.
