The next meeting of the HVCC Book Club will be Wednesday, May 9 at noon in the Coffee Cafe at the Campus Center. We will be reading The Language of Baklava by Diana Abu-Jaber.
This beautiful and funny memoir examines many of the feelings, emotions and social situations of those of mixed heritage: the embellished childhood memories of a long lost country, the importance of food as a source of comfort and the need for family heritage. With humor and grace, this author explores the cultural adjustments made growing up with a Jordanian father and an American mother.
For the next meeting, we would like to compile a summer reading list. If you have books that you’d like to see on that list, please send a quick blurb with title, author, description and page numbers to m.bolton@hvcc.edu.
I hope you can join us on the 9th! All are welcome!
