Are You Up to the Challenge? The 2012 Workforce Challenge, that is…

Last year, as I stood among the thousands of runners beneath the Empire State Plaza at the start of the CDPHP Workforce Challenge, alone and unable to find the meager two or three other runners representing Hudson Valley Community College, I vowed that we would come back with a larger group next year.

I noticed full teams from other colleges and universities – dozens of runners from UAlbany, Saint Rose, RPI and from school districts around the region. Where was Hudson Valley? Obviously not representing. Now, please know that the race takes place the night of our college’s Student Honors Convocation, so if you plan to attend that, you’ll have to take a pass.

This is one of the largest annual road races in upstate New York – four miles, up through Washington Park and then back down the hill. You can do it. You can walk it, run it, jog it, crawl it (although I would not recommend that final choice) but it’s pretty awe inspiring running alongside 2,000 other people when the gun goes off. Who’s with us? You have 20 days to train. We have seven committed runners so far.

Contact John Braungard (j.braungard@hvcc.edu) this week if you are interested in joining the Hudson Valley team. There may even be a t-shirt in it for you.
