To the HVCC community:
Effective August 29, 2012, Hudson Valley Community College will discontinue its Student Accident and Sickness Insurance plan which was mandatory for full-time students and optional for part-time students through the Maksin Management Corp.
The college’s existing policy does not meet the minimum requirements for the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act.
An upgraded policy with minimal coverage required by federal law would be cost prohibitive for students and as a result, the Accident & Sickness Insurance Fee will not be charged in the 2012 fall semester.
Please be aware that Hudson Valley Community College no longer requires students to hold an accident and illness insurance policy, however it is strongly recommended.
The majority of students may already have their own insurance or receive coverage under a parent or family member’s plan.
Students seeking to gain insurance or learn more, may visit this Website (https://www.hvcc.edu/insurance.html) offering information on New York State-sponsored insurance plans and other options.
For more information or questions, please contact the college Health Services at ext. 7468.
Sincerely,
Claudine Potvin-Giordano
Coordinator of Health Services
