One year ago, Tropical Storm Irene ravaged so many of us, but none so much as in the Schoharie Valley from Greene and Delaware counties up through Schoharie, Montgomery and Schenectady counties and beyond. We all saw the devastation unleashed on so many. It affected so many of us, myself included, evacuating for 2 days from my home.
By word of mouth, by friends talking to friends, the call went out for aid and assistance. Friends of mine and their friends were helped by so many of the HVCC family. Donations helped bring many families back from losing most everything.
I wanted, albeit belatedly, on this one year anniversary of the storm, to thank each and every one of you who donated whatever…. clothing, materials, money, whatever you donated. I made 100% sure that all of it was used in my home county to help someone, families who lost everything, people homeless, whomever. The generosity of the HVCC family helped so many of my neighbors and friends, and people I never even met. Everything donated was put to use by people who needed it the most.
I am grateful for the generosity of all of you for helping so many of the folks here to survive and rebuild. The task is far from complete, and the losses are still raw, but you helped. On behalf of everyone in Schoharie County whom you helped, I, and we, say thank you for helping us in out time of need.
Sincerely,
Prof. Bill Darling, proud Schoharie County resident
