The HVCC Book Club will meet Wed., Oct 17 at noon in the Dwight Marvin Library’s Honors Room on the first floor of the library. We’re reading Mudbound by Hillary Jordan.
In this book it is 1946, and city-bred Laura McAllan is dragged by her husband to a Mississippi Delta farm she names Mudbound. Laura has difficulty adjusting to life without electricity, indoor plumbing, or nearby medical care for her children. Not only that, but her misogynous, racist, father-in-law lives with them. When two young WWII veterans return from the nightmares of war torn Europe, to Mudbound , they both have trouble coping with Mississippi’s Jim Crow laws. The fury and terror of racism rears its ugly head.
All are welcome to attend!
