AUTOCAD BASICS: Oct. 29 – Nov. 17

 

The Workforce Development Institute offers AUTOCAD BASICS, Oct. 29 through Nov. 17, 2012. This 30-hour credit-free course is designed for individuals who are interested in learning the fundamentals of design using AutoCAD software, including those looking to expand their skill sets within the building trades or graphic design industries.  Previous AutoCAD experience is not required for participation in this class.

The course will be taught by Peter Fil, an instructor in the College’s Civil, Construction, Industrial and Mechanical Technologies department.  The schedule is Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 – 9 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  If any classes have to be cancelled, they will be made up on Monday, Nov. 19 and Monday, Nov. 26, as necessary.

To meet the objective of providing students with an overview of AutoCAD software tools and how to use them for specific design tasks, the course will include the following topics and activities:

  • Producing 2D drawings
  • Creating custom templates
  • CAD plotting and layout
  • Advanced CAD commands, including file management, blocks, x-refs and the creation of libraries
  • Completing complex drawings

Prerequisites: high school diploma or GED; minimum 10th grade reading and math skill levels; average-to-above average computer skills.

Tuition is $595, plus approximately $75 for the optional textbook.
