Did you know you can insert symbols into your Blackboard course?
There is a symbol picker 
among the icons at the top of any text box with a number of symbols to choose from. You also can use HTML code which provides access to many more symbols. This web page has a list of many symbols and their corresponding code http://www.ascii.cl/htmlcodes.htm.
