Welcome to the Civic Engagement Center and Educational/Cultural Enrichment Lounge

In an effort to eliminate the disorderly behavior that was occurring in the club corner, located outside of the Student Activities Office on the second floor of the Siek Campus Center, the area was re-arranged over the intersession to encourage a more conducive social/learning environment.

The far end of the corner — civic engagement center — will be the designated area for clubs, organizations and departments to schedule meetings between 1 and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The area is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for casual gatherings. The middle area — educational/cultural enrichment lounge — is designed for relaxation, social gathering along with continuous playing of select educational DVDs on various social, cultural and historical events. On Friday, a select commercial DVD will be shown throughout the day.

Louis Coplin, director for Student Life and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), said the change was made because of some of the rambunctious behavior exhibited by some of the students who frequented the space to the extent  disciplinary measures were taken against two  students. “It got to  a point where the volume and the language of some of the students was very offensive, embarrassing and was causing a disruption in our ability to  conduct business professionally and efficiently.”

An educational DVD will shown continuously Monday-Thursday. On Fridays, a commercial movie will be shown. The Student Activities Office welcomes suggestions from the campus community on DVD selections. For more information, please contact the Student Activities Office at 629-7348

Take a few minutes and have your lunch or cup of your favorite beverage, and join us at the new Civic Engagement Center and Educational/Cultural Enrichment Lounge!
