Lincoln Log contest for young builders

In conjunction with its traveling exhibition, “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War” on display in the Marvin Library Learning Commons, Hudson Valley Community College is hosting a Lincoln Log Building Contest for students in grades K-8.

Contest entrants are asked to use Lincoln Logs to build a version of Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood log cabin or another style of historic cabin or building from the period of Lincoln’s life.  In addition, entrants must write a 100-word or less essay describing their building and the source of building ideas (website, book, article, government document, historic photograph, etc.).  The college’s library has a limited number of Lincoln Logs sets  available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Visit the Lincoln Exhibit Web site for the contest description and the entry form.  Entries are due by 8 a.m. on Feb. 28.  Submitted entries will be on display in the Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Atrium in the Marvin Library Learning Commons through March 5.

Support for this project was provided by Standish Family Fund of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.
