The men’s basketball team (20-11) defeated Tompkins-Cortland Community College (21-5,) 60-51, in the opening round of the regional tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Vikings trailed by eight at the half, but managed to outscore the Panthers 34-17 in the second half to move on to the semifinals of the Regional Tournament. Brandon Dean (Flagler Palm Coast/Bunnell, FL) led all scorers with 22 points, while Jose Reyes (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) added nine points and 10 assists. Jeffrey Kruzinski (Mohonasen/Schenectady) recorded nine points, including a go-ahead three-pointer, and Nate Monson (Cohoes/Cohoes) added nine points, all coming from behind the arc.
The following day the Vikings (20-12) lost to SUNY Delhi (28-4), 69-48, in the semifinals.
Hudson Valley fell behind early and could never make up the difference. The Broncos shot the ball well from the outside, while the Vikings struggled shooting the ball. Jose Reyes (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) led the Vikings with 17 points, and Brandon Dean (Flagler Palm Coast/Bunnell, FL) added 14 in the loss. Dean was also named to the All-Tournament after averaging 18.0 points in the two games.
