Baseball teams varies in weekend series with SUNY Adirondack

 

The baseball team (8-8) lost to SUNY Adirondack (10-9), 12-10 and 5-4, on Sunday afternoon at home, but won one game of a doubleheader at Adirondack on Saturday.

The Vikings took an early 3-2 lead in game one, but a seven-run fourth inning put the Timberwolves up by six. Hudson Valley made a late rally in the seventh inning but fell two runs short. John Craig (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) led the team with three hits, a double and two RBIs. Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney), Bradley Adams (Catholic Central/Troy) and Mike Sunkes (Catholic Central/Waterford) each added two hits apiece in the loss.

In game two, Craig tripled in the sixth to pull within one run, but the Timberwolves struck back with another run in the seventh to extend their lead to 5-3. The Vikings made it interesting as Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) had an RBI triple with one out to pull within one, but was stranded on third to end the game. Craig finished the game with a double, triple and two RBIs, and Lushkevich also recorded a double, triple and an RBI.

On Saturday, the baseball team (8-6) split with SUNY Adirondack (8-9) on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings won game one in eight innings, 12-5, but lost game two, 12-10.

Hudson Valley trailed 5-2 heading into the seventh in game one, but a two-run homerun by Anthony Scaccia (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) cut the lead to one. A few batters later, Matt Leonardo (Colonie/Colonie) came in and delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to take the game to extra innings. The Vikings ran away with the game in the eighth, scoring seven runs to earn the victory. Scaccia led the team going 3-4 at the plate with two homeruns, three RBIs and three runs scored. Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) added three hits of his own, and Mike Verschelden (Chatham/Chatham) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in game two, but Adirondack scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to edge the Vikings 12-10. Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney) led the team going 4-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. John Craig (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) added two hits and four RBIs, and Parslow chipped in a pair of hits and two RBIs.
