Roy Pompey receives award

Roy Pompey, director of the Collegiate Academic Support Program, received the Certificate of Appreciation Award at the inaugural Capital District Black Male Empowerment Summit 2013 held April 26 at the Macedonia Baptist Church of Albany.

Pompey, a 25-year employee of Hudson Valley Community College, was recognized for his dedication and commitment to back male development and imparting history, being a student advocate, community activist and developing the minds of black men that will help shape their future.

Pompey said he was overwhelmed, delighted and rejuvenated with the recognition. “This is the work that is so very important in the urban community,” he said. “Part of what I do is listen to what students have to say and encourage them continuously.”

The Summit was held over a three-day period that invited nationally-known speakers and offered a series of workshops that focused on education, religion, health, economics and personal development.
