Malta Community Day
Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you’ve not yet had a chance to visit the college’s TEC-SMART facility, located at 345 Hermes Road in Malta, this might be a good day to do so.

A day full of fun, informative activities for all ages, giveaways, food and much more is planned!

Learn about the college’s state-of-the-art extension center that offers classes in such fields as photovoltaics, alternative fuels wind power and semiconductor manufacturing.  Take a tour of the labs while learning about the program offerings and the careers they can lead to, with information on current job opportunities and average salaries available.

Regional Computer Recycling & Recovery will be collecting your old electronics to recycle (click here for details), at no-cost, while representatives from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) will be on hand to demonstrate the importance of sustainable decisions and answer questions on home energy efficiency.

Also, local food vendors will be on site throughout the day as well as the Tri-City Valley Cats’ speed pitch machine and their mascot, SouthPaw.

Don’t miss out on this event which is sure to be a great time for all!

Additional events include the Malta Business and Professional Association’s Inaugural 5K Race (registration at 7:30 a.m.). The 5K route will take you through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Saratoga Technology + Energy Park ® (STEP®) and the Luther Forest Technology Campus; homes to Hudson Valley Community College’s TEC-SMART Campus and the GLOBALFOUNDRIES new chip Fab plant. Proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Saratoga County Rural Preservation Company, local veterans and emergency response organizations.

Immediately following, the Malta Military, Veterans and First Responders Appreciation Day and Parade is planned to kick-off at 10 a.m. from the vicinity of the Community Center and proceed one mile south on Route 9. Marchers this year include a military band, two marching bands, the Navy Power Training Unit and several other participants.
