Blackboard Users,
In order to reduce delays while Blackboard processes export/import requests, it is highly recommended that you export and import your course into the Fall 2013 course shell during the next few weeks while there are less demands on the system. If you wait until the last week of the semester, you will experience considerable delays directly proportional to the number of requests waiting in the cue. The exception to this is if you have been developing on the Training server in which case you will need to wait until after the upgrade to export/import into the production server.
It is extremely important to check your HVCC e-mail to see if you have received an e-mail confirmation from the Blackboard Administrator that states the export and/or import process has successfully completed. However, it has come to our attention that Blackboard is sending an e-mail that the import process has successfully completed, when in fact, it is still running. Depending on the number of users running the same processes and the size of the course, it can take anywhere from two minutes to two hours for these processes to complete. If you are concerned, please call or e-mail the Distance and Online Learning staff and we can check to see if the process is still running.
Important: Lengthy delays and/or incomplete imports are often caused by users either double clicking the “submit” button on the Export/Import course pages or by users starting an Export/Import process and then starting it again because it appears as though nothing has happened. These types of activities can cause the system to run really slowly or possibly cause downtime. Please click once only and wait for the export or import to complete.
Please contact the Distance and Online Learning Help Desk at 629-7070 or e-mail DLHelp@hvcc.edu if you have any questions or need assistance preparing your course for the semester.
