Blackboard Instructors:
Now that the upgrade to Blackboard has been completed it is time to prepare your course(s) for the semester.
Remember, as you are exporting and importing courses, the process may take a while depending on how many other courses are queued. Please DO NOT submit again or it will take even longer. Call the Center for Distance and Online Learning if you need assistance. Also, check out What’s New and Different in service pack 11, www.hvcc.edu/deptweb-dlweb/docpdfs/WhatisNewandDifferentSP11.pdf.
Due to the upgrade, there are a few important things that we have discovered which you will need to do in addition to the usual course preparations. These include:
Links: Check your links. Make sure you have them set to “open in a new window.”
Check Availability: The upgrade set all courses to “unavailable” status.
Incompletes: If you have any incompletes for Spring 2013 or Summer 2013, please make your courses available again immediately.
Discussion Board: Display after dates and Display until dates for closing Discussion Board forums are not currently working. If you want to make a forum unavailable you can just click on “make unavailable”. However, students will still see the forum text.
We will continue to communicate with you on anything else we discover. The Help Desk is available this weekend by e-mailing DLHelp@hvcc.edu or calling (518) 629-7070.
The rest of the course preparation is as usual. Please review the Prepare Your Course for the Semester info which can be found at: www.hvcc.edu/deptweb-dlweb/faculty.php?id=1199&cat=28
Training
If you would like assistance acclimating to this new version of Blackboard, please call 629-7070 or e-mail DLHelp@hvcc.edu to set up an appointment.
Don’t Forget to Make Your Course Available
Once the semester begins, students will only have access to a course that has been made available by the course instructor. You must manually make your course(s) available in Blackboard in order for students to see them.
To set the course availability, follow these steps:
- From the Control Panel of your course
- Select Customization
- Select Properties
- Locate Step 3: Set Availability and select Yes, “Make Course Available“
- Select Submit
- A green confirmation bar will appear indicating that the properties have been updated
