WDI offers Electrical Wiring: Principles and Practices

 

The Workforce Development Institute is offering Electrical Wiring: Principles and Practices, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday evenings beginning Tuesday, Oct. 9 and ending Wednesday, Nov. 13.

This six-week course provides instruction in performing basic electrical tasks, including recognizing distinguishing characteristics of electrical systems and applying design principles and calculations for electrical distribution systems. It also provides the necessary foundation in electricity needed by those who wish to study the field of photovoltaics, (PV).

This course will be a mixture of lecture and electrical lab, covering the following topics:

  • Electrical Systems and Materials
  • Basics of Electricity
  • Design Guidelines/Building Electrical Planning
  • Step up and Step Down Types
  • Electrical Drafting Conventions

Students should have at least 10th grade reading and math skills, and they are required to bring some supplies, including straight and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire testers, pliers, needle nose pliers, wire strippers for solid wire, utility knife and safety glasses. The tuition for the 32-hour course is $595, with no textbook required.
