Did you know that in the new version of Blackboard, your students must follow different steps for viewing feedback and comments that you provide them with when you grade their tests, Discussion Board work, assignment submissions, etc.?
- For Assignments, when they go into their My Grades view, students must select the underlined title of the assignment in order to view the submission history and your feedback on a returned assignment (for example a document).
- To view your general comments for tests, assignments, Discussion Board work, etc., students select the Comments link that appears under the name of the assessment. This Comments link reflects your general comments for the grade column.
- If you grade any assessment using the Blackboard rubric tool, your students will see a View Rubric link under the name of that assessment, which they can select to view the rubric for the assessment and the criteria-specific feedback that you have provided them with.
- For Tests, students select the underlined title of the test to access the View Attempts page, and then view their results and your feedback for a test attempt by selecting the grade for that attempt, which functions as a link and is listed under the heading Calculated Grade
- For assessments such as Discussion Boards, Blogs, Wikis and Journals, students can view the details of their submissions, contributions, etc., by selecting the underlined title of the assessment.
- Finally, the Description link under each grade is visually very prominent and it is advisable to provide brief descriptions of your Grade Center columns. Otherwise, your students will only see the categories of the columns listed when they select the Description link.
On the Blackboard support site for students, the Distance and Online Learning Office has created an excellent tutorial on this subject, which students can use to become familiar with the steps for viewing their assessment feedback in Blackboard. To view this tutorial, use the following link, which you can also copy/paste into a Blackboard course announcement and/or e-mail to your students: Navigating My Grades.
As always, do not hesitate to contact the Distance and Online Learning Office (518-629-7070 /DLHelp@hvcc.edu), if you have any questions or if you would like to get more information about this new feature in Blackboard.
