Women’s tennis headed back to Nationals; team earns All-Conference

The women’s tennis team had another strong showing at Regionals this past weekend, finishing second, only four points behind Broome Community College.

Jenna Brophy (Greenwich/Greenwich) won her second consecutive Regional III Championship, but this time it was in the first flight of singles action. Sarah Nuss (Averill Park/Wynantskill) and Kristen Parker (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Scotia) won their first Region Championship in the third and fourth singles flight. Parker and Ciarra Hogan (Columbia/Wynantskill) also took home the third flight doubles Region Championship.

Elizabeth Batchelder (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) and Ciarra Hogan (Columbia/Wynantskill) both fell in the finals of their singles flights, and Batchelder and Nuss lost in the second flight doubles final as well.

It also was announced that the Vikings took a clean sweep in the Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference, where all six girls in their respective flights earned All-Conference honors. This is the first time in the history of the program that Hudson Valley took all six of six All-Conference spots.

The ladies have a week to prepare for Nationals in Flushing at the site of the US open, beginning on Wednesday, October 16.
