The All-USA Community College Academic Team and the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Programs will continue in 2014. The collaboration of USA TODAY, Follett Higher Education Group, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, the Coca-Cola Foundation, AACC and Phi Theta Kappa will lead to students being featured in an April issue of USA TODAY and the awarding of nearly $350,000 in scholarships to outstanding community college students.
Hudson Valley Community College has the opportunity to nominate up to two students to participate in this competition.
This is a highly-competitive process. Eligible students will demonstrate outstanding academic rigor and grade point average; participation in honors programs; awards, honors, and recognition for academic achievement, and service to the college and community. A focal point of the application process is the essay written by the student, which should center around one endeavor he/she has undertaken that utilized his/her community college education to improve his/her community or school. Judges look for innovative, creative, original and lasting achievements or undertakings.
For advice or hints in selecting students for nomination, we encourage you to read the following when considering nominees: http://www.ptk.org/become-a-member/scholarships/academic-teams/advice-to-nominators.
By Nov. 8, please forward the names of students or refer qualified students to Gayle Healy, CTR 270, g.healy@hvcc.edu or 629-7326. This will allow us the time to contact that student and for the student to begin the application process.
Thank you for your consideration.
