This week the nation celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr King gave his life tirelessly promoting social and economic justice for all. We remember and honor his sacrifice. We remember his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech that rallied the nation to overcome injustice. It also is a time when people honor his memory by serving others.
To mark Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in 2014, SUNY campuses from across the state participated in a day of service. These acts of service included food and clothing drives, spending time with senior citizens, working on Habitat for Humanity projects, toy drives, blood drives, leadership and wellness education, and many more! Other campuses, including Hudson Valley Community College, will organize service opportunities during the semester in honor of Dr. King’s legacy. (Watch future announcements for more details.)
In a time when the economic reforms Dr. King called for are still far off, it is fitting that we do all we can to care for the less fortunate among us.
Let us continue to dream with Dr. King for a better world. Let us turn these dreams into actions in order to make them reality.
Peace and Blessings,
Cylon George
Campus Chaplain
