Electrical Wiring: Principles and Practices
Feb. 17 – March 24:  Monday/Thursday: 6 – 9 p.m.

Providing a blend of lecture and hands-on electrical labs, this course covers the following topics:

  •   Electrical Systems and Materials
  •   Basics of Electricity
    • Power   generation
    • Energy   calculations
    • Wiring   types, ratings and applications
    • Electrical   box sizing
  •   Multimeters
  •   Design Guidelines/Building Electrical Planning
    • Circuiting:   series and parallel
    • Over-current   protection and grounding
    • Direct   current, alternating current and Ohm’s Law
    • Single-phase   and three-phase electricity
    • Transformers
  •   Step up and Step Down Types
    • Voltage   drop
    • Electrical   design procedures
    • Sizing,   installation and layout of circuits
    • Sizing   and installation requirements of electrical panelboards
  •   Electrical Drafting Conventions
  •   Step up and Step Down Types
    • Voltage   drop
    • Electrical   design procedures
    • Sizing,   installation and layout of circuits
    • Sizing   and installation requirements of electrical panelboards
  •   Electrical Drafting Conventions

Students are required to bring to class: straight and Phillips head screwdrivers, wire testers, pliers, needle nose players, wire strippers for solid wire, utility knife, and safety glasses.

Prerequisites:  Minimum 10th grade level reading and math skills.
