  • Christian Brothers Academy
  • Lansingburgh
  • Middleburgh
  • Schuylerville
  • South Colonie
  • Troy
  • Waterford-Halfmoon
  • Watervliet

The winners were:

First Place – Schuylerville

Second Place – Academy of Holy Names

Third Place – Watervliet

The Schuylerville team consisted of coach Tom Bryson and team members Mike Pumiglia (captain), McKenzie Goldup and Zack Galcik and alternates Shannon Fay and Nate Mausert.  Academy of Holy Names was coached by Nancy Manning and team members were Mackenzie Kennedy (captain), Maggie Longo and Regan Edwards.  Watervliet’s coach was Mrs. Helenek and the team members were Muhammad Khan (captain), and Tyler Chasten and Sean Flynn, with alternates Brandon Freer and Thomas Brown.

The first-place school received a Netbook donated by Lenovo and each of the winning team members received a $500 scholarship to attend Hudson Valley.

All members of the three winning teams also received scientific calculators and each of the three winning teams received Encyclopedia Britannica software.

The challenge format is based upon the rules of the Trivial Pursuit game.  The schools send three-person teams which are comprised of high school students in grades 9-12.  Each team has a designated student captain and a faculty coach.  There are two elimination rounds and a final round.  The order of play for each team is randomly determined based on a drawing before the event and teams have a minute to answer each question until they get a wedge or answer incorrectly.  There are five categories for the game and once a team has won wedges for all five, they win the game, followed by second and third place.

There is a reception before the competition begins, and the students and schools are treated to pizza and wings.  Throughout the play, all students have the chance to win raffle prizes.

Congratulations to Schuylerville, Academy of Holy Names and Watervliet!

Photos of the event will posted later today.
