Sisters Incynch participate in nutrition outreach and education program

2014 Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP)

In keeping with the club’s mission, members of Sisters Incynch participated Wednesday, May 21 in the interactive NOEP outreach convention at the Holiday Inn in Albany. In addition  to learning about various components of poverty and various government programs aimed to help under-served populations, we participated in mock interviews and a seminar to share ways to assist in helping disadvantaged groups throughout the Capital Region and beyond.

This year’s NOEP Outreach Convention was an opportunity for students and the general public to learn about Federal Nutrition Assistance Programs, namely SNAP, the School Breakfast program and the Summer Food Service program. Speakers included Hunger Solutions NOEP Coordinators, who spoke about their work with SNAP, as well as representatives of guest organizations from across New York.
This year, the NOEP Outreach Convention featured a special interactive Certificate of Participation curriculum for anyone interested in learning about SNAP. This curriculum included interactive booths that detail specific features of SNAP – mock family budgeting scenarios, mock application assistance, short informational presentations about SNAP and a specific population, and strategic discussion sessions.
Lauren Atiken, president of Sisters Incynch, and Ashley Dunbar, vice president, received certificates.
