Blackboard instructors: Are you ready for the Fall 2014 semester?

Please review the Prepare Your Course for the Semester info which can be found at:

https://www.hvcc.edu/deptweb-dlweb/faculty.php?id=1199&cat=28

Remember as you are exporting and importing courses, the process may take a while depending on how many other courses are queued. Please DO NOT submit multiple times or it will take even longer. Call the Center for Distance and Online Learning if you need assistance.

Also, if you do not use Bb Collaborate Tools, please do not select them as items to export or import else you will get a “failure” notice even though your course successfully imports.

Please make your Courses and Organizations available! Courses and Organizations were set to be “unavailable” during the upgrade process.

Once the semester begins, students only will have access to a course that has been made available by the course instructor. You must manually make your course(s) available in Blackboard in order for students to see them.

To set the course availability, follow these steps:

  • From the Control Panel of your course
  • Select Customization
  • Select Properties
  • Locate Step 3: Set Availability and select Yes, “Make Course Available
  • Select Submit
  • A green confirmation bar will appear indicating that the properties have been updated

The New Version of Blackboard:

The scheduled transition-training workshops will focus on providing answers to the following questions regarding the new version of Blackboard (the bulleted items below are also links that you can use to view printable overviews of their respective topics):

Workshops are being held this week in BTC 1033 on Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. – noon, and on Wednesday from noon – 1 p.m. and no RSVP is required for folks who want to attend a transition training workshop! If the dates/times of the scheduled workshops are not convenient for you, you can contact Mark Petersen in the Center for Distance and Online Learning (629-8128/m.petersen@hvcc.edu) to arrange a training session on a date and time of your choice.

If you instead wish to review on your own the changes and new features in Blackboard April 2014, simply use the above links to view printable overviews of the topics that you are interested in learning about.

For more details about the upgrade schedule and your options for working in Blackboard before and after the upgrade takes place, use the following link: Information on the Upgrade to Blackboard April 2014

As always, please do not hesitate to contact the Center for Distance and Online Learning (629-7070/DLHelp@hvcc.edu) if you have any questions!

Have a great semester!
