Bb 9.1 April 2014
Lurking among the numerous improvements in the new version of Blackboard (Bb 9.1 April 2014) is a glitch in the functionality of the Discussion Board (apparently, Murphy can not be entirely suppressed). Specifically, if you read your students’ posts for a Discussion Forum, you discover, when you return to the main Discussion Forum window, that all of your read posts are displaying as being unread. This can be frustrating if you have a large number of posts for the Forum, and you want to keep accurate track of the posts that you have read.
Blackboard is aware of this glitch, and plans to push through a fix in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, there are two ways in which you can work around the glitch.
The first workaround is to go into List View so that you can see the exact number of “unread” posts for the Discussion Forum (the numbers display in blue circles to the far right of each student’s name). You can then select all of your students’ posts, and mark them as read by selecting Mark as Read from the Thread Actions drop-down menu. Here’s how you do that:

The second workaround may be preferable for faculty who routinely collect their Discussion Forum posts in order to read them. What you do is collect your posts (which then display in a Collection window), and then mark them as read as you are reading and/or replying to them. The following screenshots illustrates the steps for doing this:
