Blackboard Tip of the Week

Bb 9.1 April 2014

With the approach of the Spring 2015 Semester, many faculty will be busy doing course exports and imports as they prepare their courses for the start of the Semester (Export Course Import Course).

In the past, there were two time-consuming tasks that faculty had to undertake as a necessary part of their course preparation: 1) Deleting old posts from imported Discussion Boards, and 2) Revising due-dates and display dates in the courses in which they’ve imported content from older courses. As a welcome change, our current version of Blackboard  (Bb 9.1 April 2014) allows you to carry out these tasks in considerably less time!

First, when you do a course export in Blackboard, you can now tell Blackboard to not include the old posts from your course Discussion Board (How Does that Work?). Doing this effectively eliminates the follow-up chore of deleting old posts from the Discussion Board of the course that you are importing into.

Second, using the new Date Management tool in Blackboard, you can update all of your course due-dates and display dates in one location, rather than having to navigate through your course and manually edit your due-dates and display dates. The following link points to a previous Bb Tip of the Week that describes how this tool works and what your options are in using it:  Date Management.
