Is There Still an Opportunity for the Dream? with Dr. Reverend Eric Shaw

Dr. Reverend Eric Shaw, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, discusses the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the lessons we can learn from him today as we grapple with contemporary racial struggles. In particular, Shaw speaks about Dr. King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.”  This presentation is co-sponsored by the Voices: Library Lecture Series. A reception will follow. The reception is co-sponsored by the Black and Latino Student Union and Instructional Support Services and Retention.

This presentation kicks off the “Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle” programming series slated for February and March. A full schedule of events is available online. All are welcome. Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle is made possible through a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as part of its Bridging Cultures initiative, in partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

If your organization is interested in co-sponsoring a Created Equal event, please contact Brenda Hazard at b.hazard@hvcc.edu.
