Alumnus visits Science Center

 

David Allard ’75, who majored in Environmental Science, was thrilled to be back on campus. He was very impressed by the college’s facilities and was excited to see the growth and progress of the college.. He credits Hudson Valley Community College for all his success. Upon his graduation,, he went to UAlbany and finished his degree in Environmental Sciences. He holds a master’s degree in Radiological Sciences and Protection from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

Through the Hudson Valley career center, he was able to get his first job at Albany Med. That is where he met his wife, Marjorie, who is an x-ray specialist and now teaches at Penn State in Hershey. In 1999, they moved to Cambridge, MA, where he was a consultant to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office on Independent Oversight for eight years, and performed environmental and occupational radiation protection appraisals of various weapons, reactor, accelerator and clean-up sites. Dave visits the area frequently as his two brothers live in Averill Park.

Today, Dave is the director of the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection Bureau of Radiation Protection, where he is responsible for the effective implementation, policy, management, and technical aspects of the Commonwealth’s radiation protection programs. Dave manages a staff of 108.
