Boy Scouts visit Viking Video Technologies

Recently, Boy Scout Troop 279 B.S.A. from Latham visited the Viking Video Technologies (VVT) television studios to work toward their Communications and Digital Technology Merit Badges. The troops and parents were able to get a close-up look at various pieces of television production equipment and as well as get a better understanding of the numerous staff position required to operate that equipment. Parents and troops asked many questions.

The real fun began when the Scouts were able to get hands-on experience with equipment in VVT’s Studio B to create a mock tele-prompted newscast. Some troops were in front of the cameras, playing the role of news anchors, while one scout was the meteorologist that stood in front of the “green screen” to give the forecast. Off camera, students operated the audio board, teleprompter, video playback, floor manager and cameras. Eric Kiel, Kevin Buess and Bob Racette of Viking Video Technologies gave a little insight into video production and worked with the Troop during the newscast.

After the event, the Troop Master let VVT know that the Boy Scouts and parents enjoyed the experience. In all, the event was very well received!
