The English, Foreign Languages, and English as a Second Language Department offers the following English as a Second Language courses for fall 2015:
Fundamentals of English as a Second Language I (ESLS 092 — 4 hours/0 credits)
Classes focus on language development in grammar, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and oral communication.
Mondays and Wednesdays: 10 – 11:50 a.m. (CRN #11100) OR Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6 – 7:50 p.m. (CRN #11983)
Reading for English as a Second Language Students I (ESLS 094 — 4 hours/0 credits)
This course is intended for ESL students who would benefit from taking a pre-college level English language reading course. Students read a variety of texts including fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, and practice applying ESL reading strategies.
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 11 a.m. – 12:50 p.m. (CRN #10393)
Speaking and Listening for ESL I
(ESLS 096 — 3 hours/0 credits)
Through speaking and listening exercises, students will practice the sounds, rhythm, intonation, and classroom listening strategies.
Wednesdays: 6 – 8:50 p.m. (CRN #16716)
English Composition I for the Foreign Born
(ESLS 101 — 3 hours/3 academic credits)
This course focuses on the processes of writing and revision in order to develop student mastery of college-level composition.
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 10 – 10:50 a.m. (CRN #17567) OR Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 11 – 11:50 a.m. (CRN #10257)
English Composition II for the Foreign Born
(ESLS 102 — 3 hours/3 academic credits)
This course expands on the processes and techniques begun in ESLS 101. Reading, practical applications of writing, and oral presentation will also be required.
