Bb Version 9.1 October 2014
Newly redesigned by Elissa Baker, the How to Use the Blackboard Learning Management System course is targeted toward Hudson Valley Community College students, who can complete it in approximately one hour and receive a basic introduction to both the Blackboard learning management system and online learning. By completing the course, students who use Blackboard in their Hudson Valley coursework can thus significantly improve their chances for success in that coursework!
In addition, students who successfully complete the How to Use the Blackboard Learning Management System course will now be awarded with a printable certificate of completion. They earn this certificate by completing a quiz for each of the 8 Modules in the course. They earn a badge for each quiz that they complete; and once they’ve earned a badge for each of the 8 quizzes, they receive the certificate of completion.
The latter is a new feature, which you can use as a means of ensuring that your students are well prepared to use Blackboard in your upcoming Fall classes. One way in which to do so would be to require your students to complete the How to Use the Blackboard Learning Management System course, and to demonstrate that they’ve done so by producing a certificate of completion. Alternatively, completion of the course could be presented to students as an extra-credit opportunity.
In any such scenario, you can make it easy for your students to prove that they’ve completed the course. That is, simply create a Blackboard assignment (How do I do that?), which your students can then use to upload electronic copies of their certificates of completion. Their pay-off for completing the course will be improved understanding of — and facility with — Blackboard, which in turn should bolster their academic performance in your course(s).
